John’s College

John’s College is a Gothic Revival theological college built around 1870. The building was restored and adapted to provide a range of community services including conference and teaching facilities, office and sheltered accommodation in 21 apartments, a group home and day centre.   36 new apartments were also constructed on the site to provide accommodation principally for older and people.

David Kelly Partnership examined the existing timber roof and floor structures; identified deteriorations in the structure; designed structural repairs that minimised impact on historic fabric.  We designed the structures and foundations of the new apartment buildings and inspected the work as it progressed on site.  In addition to acting as structural engineer we were the principal conservation consultant of the works to the College.
